The IV Materials Engineering Meeting of the EEUM, under the theme “green and sustainable engineering”, took place from February 25 to 28, bringing together more than 200 participants, 30 speakers, 30 companies and about 15 UMinho courses in a program with multiple related activities.
The opening session was attended by the president Manuel João Costa, the dean of the School of Engineering, João L. Monteiro, the city councillor of the Municipality of Braga, Altino Bessa, the leader of the UMinho Academic Association, Nuno Reis, and the president of the Materials Engineering Students Group (NEEMAT), Miguel Pinto. This was followed by a debate with Greenfest’s mentor, Pedro Norton de Matos, the CEO of the Mecwide Group, Carlos Palhares, Bosch’s president in Portugal, Carlos Ribas, and the innovation director of the dst group , Raul Junqueiro.The afternoon includes a panel with engineers from Continental, Faurecia, Meamstyle and the Center for Nanotechnology and Technical, Functional and Intelligent Materials.
February 26 was marked by the interventions of the Assistant Secretary of State and Mobility, José Mendes, and the president of the Municipality of Guimarães, Dom Ingos Bragança.The program then brought together engineers from DST Solar, Vestas, Toyota, Lipor, CVR, Corticeira Amorim, Fibrenamics and UMinho.Circular economics, industry 4.0, renewable energies, recycling and reuse, and the role of human being in economic and social growth were the topics under debate. The program of the 27th was dedicated to the ZF challenge, workshops and study visits to companies Salvador Caetano, Flight Dynamics and Aptiv .At the end of these days, on the 28th, the Workshop “Industrial Processing of Timber” was held with Sonae Arauco and the winners of the ZF Challenge had the opportunity to visit the company’s facilities to get to know their activity better.
