The School of Engineering at the University of Minho was present at the SciComPt 2024 congress with the “Engineering is Easy?!” initiative, organized by the School’s Communication Office. SciComPt, organized by the association of the same name, aims to promote the communication of science, exchange between professionals in the field and the informed participation of citizens in Science and Technology issues. This year’s event took place at the University of Minho, in Braga, on May 8, 9 and 10.
The School of Engineering’s Office for Communication and Interaction with Society, represented by the staff member Diogo Cunha, presented several activities during the congress. One of them was the workshop “Creating science communication videos with few resources and a lot of creativity”, which trained scientists and researchers to produce appealing visual content using only smartphones and low-cost equipment.
Another activity was a presentation on the representation of the female gender in the School of Engineering’s visual communication. The presentation highlighted strategies for overcoming gender barriers and promoting inclusion in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) environments. It also addressed the role of the media and social networks in promoting female role models and deconstructing gender stereotypes.
In addition, the School of Engineering had a demonstration stand, which showed examples of how to translate scientific concepts into interactive and entertaining experiences.
