UMinho engineering is 34th best in Europe

The School of Engineering at the University of Minho is the best in the country for biomedical engineering and 34th in Europe globally, according to the second edition of EngiRank – European Ranking of Engineering Programs, which evaluated 184 universities with engineering and technology courses in the European Union, Norway and Switzerland.

The list was published on October 29 by the Polish Perspektywy Education Foundation and the Foundation for the Development of the Education System. The ranking valued criteria such as research, innovation, interdisciplinarity, internationalization, links to industry, quality of teaching and contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

By sub-area, UMinho achieved its best position in civil engineering (27th in Europe and 2nd in Portugal), medical engineering (30th in Europe and 1st in Portugal) and materials engineering (53rd in Europe and 2nd in Portugal), followed by environmental engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and electronic engineering. In 2023, UMinho ranked 37th globally and now 34th, equal with the University of Aveiro and just behind the universities of Porto (33rd) and Lisbon (32nd).
