Swearing-in Ceremony took place on October 18th
Lígia Raquel Marona Rodrigues, Associated Professor with Habilitation of the Department of Biological Engineering (DEB), was elected department director, having as assistant director Mariana Contente Rangel Henriques, Assistant Professor.
In her acceptance speech, Lígia thanked all those who elected her and said that “It is a challenge that we will embrace and make every effort to build an even better department and surely with the collaboration of all.l”.
The swearing-in ceremony took place last Friday and was attended by Pedro Arezes, Dean of the School of Engineering, who congratulated the new management team and emphasising the responsibility of the position regarding the relevance of the department. He also mentioned his expectation of “a very collaborative relationship, and I am sure it will happen, with great synergy between the Department and the School.”
The ceremony was also attended by the vice Dean of EEUM, António Vicente, the director of the Centre of Biological Engineering, Eugénio Ferreira, as well as the Professors Isabel Belo, Armando Venancio, Joana Azeredo, Olivia Pereira, and the researcher Luís Melo.
Lígia Rodrigues received her a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of Minho. In 2003 she became a Professor at UMinho and since 2016 she has been a course director of the Master’s in Food Science and Technology, and since 2018 she is a member of the steering committee Doctoral Program in Biotechnology. She was Deputy Director of the Department of Biological Engineering between 2016 and 2019.
