School of Engineering at the Futuro@Guimarães 2026 Fair

The UMinho School of Engineering was present at the UMinho booth at the Futuro@Guimarães Fair—a Training, Education, and Employment Fair—which took place on April 22 and 23 at the Multipurpose Pavilion, answering questions from hundreds of high school students about undergraduate programs.

The event, organized by the Municipality’s Youth Division with organizational support from Tempo Livre, became a platform of opportunities for the younger generations of Guimarães (targeting an audience of approximately 13,000 students), bringing together 68 exhibitors representing everything from public and private secondary and higher education to vocational training and career transition programs.

At the event’s opening, Afonsina—the University of Minho’s engineering student band—was tasked with entertaining both exhibitors and visitors with its musical repertoire.

During the visit, the mayor was accompanied by the Rector of the University of Minho, Pedro Arezes, and the Director of IPCA, Alexandra Malheiro, highlighting the close connection between local government and institutions of higher learning, as well as by the President of the UMinho School of Engineering. The fair stands out for the participation of virtually all universities and polytechnics in the north of the country and for being free of charge for both institutions and visitors, facilitating direct access to crucial information about academic pathways and the job market.

The fair has thus established itself as a cornerstone of the city’s strategy to make the region more dynamic and better equipped to address the challenges of housing, advanced education, and employability, ensuring that Guimarães’s historical heritage serves as the foundation for a prosperous future for its young people.
